Extend Cumbria is run by educational professionals with 80-plus years of combined experience working across Early Years/Foundation stages, through KS1-4, As/A levels, BTEC, ND/HNDS, and degrees to post-graduate research supervision. Informal engagement with a range of family learning, basic Skills for Life and study support (including NVQs, and RARPA compliance), plus e-learning are particular strengths. Although qualified practitioners their role is largely as facilitators encouraging partnership work, and responding to local need (as shown in a variety of consultation procedures) not met by other agencies, plus project management.
2008
Extend Cumbria successfully received funding applications from Carlisle
Housing Association and NLDC (Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived
Communities) to establish ContinYou’s Pyramid Clubs for quiet or
withdrawn children, and Pyramid for Parents training.
November-December 2008
Consultancy for Richard Rose Academy, Carlisle. The Richard Rose
Academy is located in Carlisle, and has been established in challenging
circumstances: schools in special measures, a history of low attainment,
and issues of rural deprivation.
The incoporation of ICTs and social networking facilities, involves
the imposition of a virtual space upon the physical space of interaction. The
Youth Zone is no more a centre of physical activities, but rather
becomes a portal - we prefer the term hub - for the students/learners
to engage in activities that go beyond the physical/social - ‘hubbing’.
In articulating a working definition of the objective/challenge,
we can imagine a physical/social/virtual space that is seemless,
transparent, dynamic, evolving, and where on-going learning is embedded
in processes and interactions with the physical/virtual space, BUT
always seeking to facilitate and increase novel and unique methods
for commuity participation by taking advantage of the unique opportunities
offered by ICTs and electronic social networking facilities.
